Scope of Works

  • Full external redecorations
  • Extensive timber and carpentry repairs
  • Working within the requirements of a Grade II* listed building

Duration

10 Weeks

We are delivering decorating works under a Framework Agreement with Historic Sussex Hotels whereby we completed full redecoration and repairs in Year 1 and then go back each year after and redecorate any areas that have broken down.

Historic Sussex Hotels is a privately owned collection of three very distinctive luxury hotels, including Grade II* listed Ockenden Manor – a fine Elizabethan manor house with 28 lavishly decorated rooms, outstanding spa and an award-winning restaurant set in eight acres of beautiful grounds.

We were asked to carry out timber and carpentry repairs to the external elements of Ockenden Manor, as well as complete external redecoration. We held a pre-start meeting with the hotel to set start dates, then arranged for the site set-up with full scaffold to the rear of the hotel to enable us to access all windows and external components, with a MEWP used to carry out the decoration to the front of the building.

A member of Pride in Britain Hotels, it was very important that the works were delivered to the highest quality standards. The hotel was also in continual use throughout, so we coordinated our works around the occupancy of the rooms and liaised closely with hotel management daily to ensure that the works did not impact on the enjoyment of their guests.

Due to the extensive repairs and careful planning required, the project took 10 weeks to complete. As a Grade II* listed building, the timber repairs had to match the form and profile of the original timbers whilst achieving longevity and the prevention of further deterioration. Our operatives are trained in the use of specialist resins that stabilise the timbers, and once repaired and painted, cannot be seen.
