Education
Sitting in the heart of Newcastle City Centre, Newcastle University can trace its origins back to the School of Medicine and Surgery, established in 1834, and Armstrong College, founded in 1871. The property portfolio comprises a variety of both modern and historic buildings spread across several campuses, many of which are Grade II Listed buildings.
On-going
Trident have been called upon to undertake a variety of internal redecoration and associated pre-paint repair work for the University, including to communal corridors and staircases, student accommodation, offices and reception areas. We have recently carried out decoration and repairs work at Grand Hotel student accommodation, Park View reception and the Armstrong Building boardroom.
With the nature of the buildings in mind, we apply hardwearing, high-performance paints with a lifespan exceeding five years which ensures value for money for the client and protection against the high student traffic, therefore reducing on-going maintenance costs. Heritage colours are selected to give a feeling of a superior finish with a premium product, and in keeping with the historic nature of many of the sites.
Given the educational purpose of the buildings, the works are generally undertaken out of term time to ensure the best opportunity of the works not interfering with the running of the University. However, there are instances where there is a need to plan, sequence and manage the flow of work around the students and staff during term time – we deliver these works out of hours into the evening/night or over weekends to minimise disruption caused.
We liaise with the University’s Building Officers regularly to ensure that all works are completed to full satisfaction and meeting all agreed standards. These meetings are vital for discussing some of the challenges we face and agreeing actions to take to ensure that we successfully overcome them, such as working around occupied student accommodation during term time and ensuring that the rooms are returned on time.
